The Executive Authority for the A4 Highway has awarded the contract for the upgrading and widening to three lanes of a 25km section between the Tagliamento Bridge and Gonars and the Palmanova cloverleaf to the consortium (under formation) Rizzani de Eccher – Pizzarotti, who will act as general contractor. The entire contract is worth approximately € 300 million with a construction period of 5 years and 11 months.
Several qualifying aspects of the technical proposal have played a decisive role in securing the contract award: the bridge over the Tagliamento River will be 1.5km long with spans of over 80m, which allow for the flood plains surrounding the river to be left untouched. All adjunct structures (smaller bridges, overpasses, underpasses) shall be built to the highest technological standards in order to guarantee a project useful life in excess of 100 years, as required for the construction of strategic infrastructure. Furthermore, the scope of contract includes the realization of important works aimed at minimizing the impact on the surrounding environment (effluent collection basins, phyto-depuration, noise-abating barriers) as well as accessory works of any type (weather stations, CCTV, traffic monitoring systems, lighting of interchanges and underpasses). The co-financing offer in excess of € 100 million has been another determining factor in favour of the successful award.
