Rizzani de Eccher, in a Joint Venture with VSL and Freyssinet, was awarded the USD 140 million contract for the construction of the “Red line” viaduct (a 43 km elevated line that will connect Dubai international airport with Jebel Alì port) for Dubai Light Rail.
The main contractor of the project is JT Metro (a joint venture established by the Japanese Obayashi Corporation and Kajima Corporation, and the Turkish Yapi Merkezi), which was granted by Dubai Road Transport Authority the concession for the engineering design, construction and commissioning of the whole project.
The project consists of the construction of a 37 km long elevated section to be erected by means of 8 launching girders using the span by span launching method, while the remaining 6 km elevated section will be launched using the balanced cantilever system by means of truck cranes and cantilever launching equipment.
Construction started in December 2005 and is scheduled for completion in 2008.
Deal is supplying the Joint Venture with the whole engineering input for the forms of the precast segments, the launching equipment both for the span by span and the cantilever erection systems as well as the shop drawings for the segment prefabrication of the balanced cantilevers.
The Joint Venture was also awarded the extension of the 2 km line section between the airport terminals T1 and T3 and is negotiating the construction of the additional light rail line (the “Green line”) approximately 14 km long.
