Rizzani de Eccher, within the framework of a temporary business arrangement with BUSI Impianti and Elyo Italia, was awarded the contract for the upgrading of Milan central railway station.
The Employer is Grandi Stazioni S.p.A., a joint venture between Ferrovie italiane and private investors, that has already completed the rehabilitation in Rome of the railway station of Roma Termini.
The contract award amounts to over Euro 85 million, of which in excess of Euro 57 million is within the Rizzani de Eccher scope of work and construction is scheduled to be completed in three years.
The main construction works, which also entails detailed design is to be carried out without interrupting the station operation, and includes the restoration of the monumental vaults of the three galleries, the restoration of the “Royal pavillion” and of the decorated surfaces, the functional recovery and expansion of the passengers’ building basements, the construction of a new system of passenger transportation systems (moving walkways and lifts) to connect the road with the platform level, the replacement and upgrading of the electrical installation, together with specialist electrical installations and air conditioning systems in the passengers service facilities.
Works started in August 2005 and are now progressing well on almost all fronts, in full view of the many thousands of passengers passing by everyday.
Rizzani de Eccher endeavour and commitment to carry out this work is identified by its considerable staff organization team: the technical management staff on site includes 15 people plus the other professionals working on behalf of engineering firms entrusted with survey and design activity with specialized workers presently over 300 in number.
